This is the tumblr for my weekly radio show, Thought Crime Spree. I play metal, drone, post-rock, long form composition, as often as I'm able to broadcast. Stay tuned for posts related to new metal, old metal, things that I like, and discussion about about songs, albums, and artists.

For your daily dose of underground black metal: here’s Bone Awl, with “Show Me”. This is one of the most vitriolic, angry things I’ve ever heard. And it’s fucking great. I really love how the American scene decided to fuse punk and black metal together - the genres compliment each other a lot more than you’d initially think. Here’s hoping Bone Awl release some new material soon.

New Album Stream: Kylesa

Pitchfork Advance done good. Real good. They’e offering a stream of the newest record from Kylesa, entitled “Ultraviolet”, and I have to say, it’s pretty damn great. It’s more psychedelic than 2011’s “Spiral Shadow”, but it doesn’t sacrifice any of the sludgy goodness that Kylesa built their name on. It really doesn’t get much better. For those in St. Louis, Kylesa will be performing at The Firebird on June 7th!

Stoked to see ANHEDONIST tonight at the Shred Shed in Salt Lake. Great times ahead.

Played 10 times

Here’s “Black Wedding”, the first track from Sunn O)))’s “The Grimmrobe Demos”. The first 8 seconds of this track are monstrous, consisting of a low, claustrophobic rumble that forewarns of the impending torrent. Apart from that, the 19 minutes of depressive drone-doom that make up this track are top-notch. Turn the volume up.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. Here’s “Stay Here”, the opening track off of “Filth”, by Swans. I love the industrial clang that permeates this track. It’s probably one of the heaviest things I’ve ever heard - heavier than 90% of the metal in my music library - and Michael Gira’s voice is the cherry on top of a completely deranged cake. The track moves forward with a vicious, bouncing groove, only to dissolve into smashed percussion and buzzing feedback.

BROADCASTING LIVE NOW UNTIL 1 PM CST!

Tune in for metal, and relieve yourself of some finals week anger.

2012 FUNERAL DOOM PLAYLIST. Solid show, and a fitting epitaph for the official KWUR semester. The fact that most of today’s playlist came from Profound Lore shows how strong that label is. See y’all next week for the first unofficial Thought Crime Spree of the semester.
